Description of government structure:

Chief of State: President Faure GNASSINGBÉ (since 4 May 2005)
Head of Government: Prime Minister Victoire Tomegah DOGBÉ (since 28 September 2020)
Assembly: bicameral National Assembly (Assemblée nationale) with a 113-seat National Assembly and a Senate

Description of electoral system:

The President is indirectly elected by the National Assembly via absolute majority vote in the first two rounds, as needed, and plurality vote in the third round and any round thereafter. The President may serve up to two 4-year terms.
The Prime Minister is appointed by the President.
In the National Assembly, 113 members are directly elected by closed-list proportional representation vote from multi-seat constituencies. All members serve unlimited 6-year terms.
In the Senate, one-third of members will be appointed by the President and two-thirds of members will be elected by representatives of subnational government bodies. Senators may serve unlimited 6-year terms.
- As of 2024, the Senate has yet to be elected.

Note: The constitutional reforms of 2024 changed the electoral system for both the executive and legislative branches.
