A majority of members to the National Assembly are directly elected by plurality vote in single member constituencies. 146 members are directly elected by plurality vote in single member constituencies reserved for women. 30 members are indirectly elected by special interest groups of youth, disabled people, elderly, workers, and the armed forces. Any individuals appointed by the President to the cabinet who are not already a member of the National Assembly becomes an ex-officio non-voting member. All members are elected to a 5-year term.
In the last election in 2021, the National Resistance Movement won a majority with 336 seats. Voter turnout was 57%.
