93 members of parliament are directly elected by plurality vote to serve a 5-year term. These MPs are elected from 15 single-seat constituencies and 18 multi-seat constituencies (known as group representation constituencies) each of which elect a list of 3-6 members including at least one member from a designated minority group (Malay; Indian or other minority groups). The 9 other members are appointed by the President of Singapore for a term of two and a half years.
The last election for the Singaporean Parliament was held on July 10, 2020. The People’s Action Party (人民行动党) won 83 seats and the Worker’s Party of Singapore (新加坡工人党) won 10 seats. Voter turnout was 96%.
