  • Assembly: Iraq’s Council of Representatives (Majlis an-Nuwwab al-Iraqiyy) is comprised of 329 seats. 320 members are directly elected, and 9 seats are reserved for minorities (5 for Christians and 1 each for Sabaean-Mandaeans, Yazidis, Shabaks, and Fayli Kurds).  

 

Electoral System: 

  • Iraq is a Federal Parliamentary Republic.  

  • Iraq changed its electoral system following the 2018 parliamentary elections. Elections are now to be conducted through a single non-transferable vote in 83 multi-member constituencies, with a quarter of seats reserved for women and 9 seats reserved for minorities (5 for Christians and 1 each for Sabaean-Mandaeans, Yazidis, Shabaks, and Fayli Kurds).
