  • Assembly: Bolivia has a bicameral National Congress (Congreso Nacional) consisting of the Chamber of Senators (Camara de Senadores) with 27 seats and the Chamber of Deputies (Camara de Diputados) with 130 seats.

* President Eduardo RODRIGUEZ Veltze has been in office since June 9, 2005 following the resignation of Carlos Diego MESA Gisbert; the latter became president after elected president Gonzalo SANCHEZ DE LOZADA resigned in October 2003.

Description of electoral system:

  • The President is elected by popular vote to serve a 5-year term.
  • In the Chamber of Senators (Camara de Senadores) 27 members are elected through a party-list proportional representation system to serve 5-year terms. In the Chamber of Deputies (Camara de Diputados), 68 members are elected from districts to serve 5-year terms and 62 members are elected through a party-list proportional representation system to serve 5-year terms.
