  • In the National Assembly (Assemblee Nationale), 65 members are elected by simple majority vote within constituencies to serve 5-year terms and 55 members are elected through a party-list proportional representation system to serve 5-year terms.***

*** The assembly currently has 140 seats, but will be reduced to 120 seats, under the terms of a new constitution approved by popular referendum in January 2001.
