March 23, 2012, 2:55 p.m.

AidData released a study regarding the relationship between foreign aid and armed conflict entitled "Do Foreign Aid Shocks Cause Violent Armed Conflict?" Using bilateral and multilateral aid data set from 1981-2005, the study looked to see how directly foreign aid effected violent armed conflicts in the countries receiving aid.

"Our results suggest that aid can affect the likelihood of violent armed conflict by influencing a state’s ability to credibly commit to an agreement that averts war at present and into the future."
