Tabare Vazquez Wins Presidency of Uruguay Again in Second Round Runoff

The first round had Tabare VAZQUEZ of Broad Front (FA) winning 47.2 percent of the vote, and his opponent Luis Alberto LACALLE Pou of the National Party winning 30.5 percent.[ii] Since no candidate reached a majority of votes in the first round, the election went to a second round. Located in South America, Uruguay has a population of 3,332,972 with 2,563,250 registered voters.[iii] Quick counts for the second round have Mr. VAZQUEZ winning over 53 percent of the vote, while LACALLE Pou won 41 percent.[iv] Turnout was at 89 percent.[v]
