UNDP to Fund Democratic Strengthening Projects in Nigeria

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has committed to financing $60 million on strengthening democracy in Nigeria ahead of the next presidential elections in December 2015. The project will work to increase capacity and sensitivity training for members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Assembly in order to facilitate organizational and legal reforms. The major goals of the project will be to encourage greater political participation and opportunities for female citizens in addition to promoting inter-party dialogue.
