Half of Solomons' MPs lose their seats in elections

Half of the Solomon Islands’ MPs lost their seats in last Wednesday’s parliamentary election, including former prime ministers Allan KEMAKEZA and Billy HILLY. 509 candidates competed for 50 seats. The high turnover, however, did not result in any of the 25 female candidates winning their races. The Solomon Islands has had only one female MP in its history.
