Dominican Republic (May 17, 2010). Violence marred legislative and municipal elections in the Dominican Republic last Sunday. Shootings claimed at least least three lives, and one victim was an armed supporter of the opposition Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD). Election observers from the Organization of American States documented additional complaints of sporadic violence as well as cases of fraudulent identity documents. According to partial results, President Leonel FERNANDEZ, who campaigned for his Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), appears to have sustained his majority in Congress.
