Endemic violence and poor sanitation are some of the major dangers that women in Nairobi's informal communities face.  The majority of Nairobi’s residents live in inadequate housing with little access to clean water, sanitation, health care, schools and other essential public services.  Amnesty International has released a report, Insecurity and Indignity: Women’s experiences in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, which details how the failure of the government to incorporate the slums in urban plans and budgets has resulted in poor access to public services.
