  • Yoweri Kaguta MUSEVENI will be able to run for a third term following an amendment to the 1995 constitution which limited the presidential office to two consecutive five-year terms.
  • Independent candidate Nasser Ntege SEBAGGALA quit the presidential race on December 28 and asked his supporters to vote the Democratic Party's candidate John Ssebaana KIZITO.
  • Parliamentary elections will also take place on February 23.
