  • Members of the National Council are elected through a flexible-list proportional representation system to serve 4-year terms.

  • Parliamentary elections were last held on 10 March 2012, with the social-democratic Smer Party taking 83 seats in the assembly. The previous election marked the first time in Slovakia’s post-communist history that a single party has held a parliamentary majority.
