In Sulu, Mindanao (South of the Philippines), the issue of election-related violence is prevalent and deep-rooted. In view of the limited capacity of local authorities to respond to the situation, the HD Centre and the Australian Agency for International Development launched the ‘Prevention Election-related violence -PERV' initiative in 2010. Its purpose is to monitor, assess and report back on election-related violence in the region to the Tumikang Sama Sama, a group of local eminents persons, who then attempts to either resolve those incidents or identify others who can help resolve them. This report presents the PERV initiative and activities carried out in recent months in Sulu, Mindanao.
