All Three Ballot Measures Fail in Switzerland’s Referendum

Dec. 4, 2014, 5:56 p.m.

The immigration proposal called for reducing the annual number of foreigners allowed into the country to live and work to 0.2 percent. The gold measure called for the Swiss National Bank to hold 20 percent of its reserves in gold, while the third proposal called for an end to tax breaks for wealthy foreigners in the country.[ii] While exact figures are pending, all three ballot measures failed to pass.[iii] Turnout was considered to be about half of all registered voters.
