Located in Eastern Europe, Moldova has a population of 3,583,288 with approximately 3,072,000 registered voters.[ii] [iii] Results have the pro-European Liberal Democrats, the Liberals, and the Democratic Party winning a combined 44 percent of the vote, while the pro-Moscow Socialist Party won 21.5 percent of the vote.[iv] Turnout was at 55.86 percent.[v] The Pro-European groups are in talks to form a coalition government.[vi] Russia has claimed that there were many problems with the campaign and election process.[vii]
[iii] This increase in the number of voters since the 2010 parliamentary elections is the result of voters being included from the autonomous region of Transdniestria. Moldova is currently in the process of verifying its voter lists, therefore the number of registered voters is currently an approximate figure.
