Namibia’s SWAPO Wins Big in National Elections

Located in southern Africa, Namibia has a population of 2,198,406 with approximately 1,241,194 registered voters.[ii] Results for the presidential election have Prime Minister Hage GEINGOB winning 87 percent,single-handedly defeating his opponents.[iii] In the vote for the National Assembly, Mr. GEINGOB’s South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) won 80 percent of 78 of 96 seats.[iv] The Democratic Turnhalle Alliance became the strongest opposition group, winning 4.8 percent of the vote or 5 seats.[v] Turnout was at 69 percent.[vi]
