Located in North Africa, Tunisia has a population of 10,937,521 with 5,285,136 registered voters.[ii] There were a total of 27 candidates in the race, none of whom attained 50 percent of the vote needed to win. The top two candidates, Beji Caid ESSEBSI of the Nidaa Tounes party and incumbent President Moncef MARZOUKI, will compete in a second round vote to be held in early or late December 2014, depending on how long the adjudication process lasts.[iii] Results have Mr. ESSEBSI winning 39.46 percent of the vote, and Mr. MARZOUKI winning 33.43 percent.[iv] Turnout was at 65 percent.[v]
