U.S. Holds Midterm Elections and Republicans Win Control of Congress

Located in North America, the U.S. has a population of 318,892,103 with approximately 213,803,482 registered voters.[i] Preliminary results show the Republican Party (GOP) having 52 seats in the Senate and the Democrats having 45.[ii] There are still 3 races that are undecided.[iii] The election puts control of the Senate with the Republicans.

In the House of Representatives, preliminary results show the Republicans having 243 seats and the Democrats having 178 seats.[iv] There are still 14 races that are undecided.[v] While polling stations are still finalizing numbers, turnout for the election is estimated to be 33.3 percent.[vi] Notably, 101 women will be in the new Congress, the most to serve in its history.[vii] Final results will be released in the coming months.
