Bosnia Holds Legislative Elections

The election for the tripartite presidency and both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly (Skupstina) in Bosnia was held on Sunday 12 October 2014. Located in the Balkans, Bosnia has a population of 3,871,643 with approximately 3 million registered voters.[i] Preliminary results have Bakir IZETBEGOVIC of the Muslim SDA party leading with 33 percent for the Bosnian seat, Zeljka CVIJANOVIC is winning for the Serb seat, and Dragan COVIC leading for the Croat seat.[ii] Approximately 77 percent of the votes have been counted.[iii] Turnout for the election was approximately 54.14 percent.[iv] It was the seventh election since the Dayton Peace Accords that ended years of violence killing over 100,000 people.[v] Final results for the presidency and the legislative elections will be released in the coming days.
