Final election results from the Costa Rican presidential election on February 2, 2014 have been released. Luis Guillermo SOLÍS Rivera, candidate for the Citizens’ Action Party / Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) received the most votes in the election, and will face Johnny ARAYA Monge in the second round of the election on April 6, 2014. SOLÍS received 629,866 votes (30.64 percent) in the first round of the election, falling short of the 40 percent threshold needed to avoid a run-off election. ARAYA, a candidate for current President Laura CHINCHILLA Miranda’s National Liberation Party / Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN) finished second in the voting, receiving 610,634 votes (29.71 percent). Turnout for the election was 68.19 percent (2,099,219 votes). Official results for the Legislative Assembly elections also held on February 2, 2014 have not yet been released.
