With results from 19,978 of 20,001 polling stations (99.89 percent), the Malagasy Election Commission has announced Hery RAJAONARIMAMPIANINA has won the second round of the presidential election. In the first round of the election, RAJAONARIMAMPIANINA finished second to former health minister Jean-Louis ROBINSON, with both candidates falling short of an absolute majority. RAJAONARIMAMPIANINA contested the election for the FIDIO party, allied to transitional President Andry RAJOELINA, who was ineligible to run for re-election due to a decision by the Malagasy electoral court; while ROBINSON, allied with former President RAVALOMANANA contested the election for the AVANA party. As of the latest count, RAJAONARIMAMPIANINA has won 53.50 percent of the vote, to the 46.50 percent won by ROBINSON. ROBINSON has already filed 300 complaints about the election to the electoral court, which must rule on the provisional results by January 19, 2014.
