The second round of voting to elect the president of the Maldives was held on November 16, 2013. In the run-off, Abdulla YAMEEN of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) / ޕްރޮގްރެސިވް ޕާރޓީ އޮފް މޯލްޑިވްސް: ޕީ.ޕީ.އެމް received the most votes, and has been sworn in as the next President of the Maldives. YAMEEN, the half-brother of former President Maumoon Abdul GAYYOOM, won 111,203 votes (51.39 percent) in the election. Former Preisdent Mohamed NASHEED finished second in the run-off with 105,181 votes (48.61 percent), despite gaining the most votes in the first round. In the second round of voting, 218,619 Maldivians (91.41 percent) cast their ballots.
