Rahmon Wins a Third Term in Tajikistan

Presidential elections were held in Tajikistan on November 6, 2013. President Emomali RAHMON of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan / Ҳизби халқӣ-демократӣ Тоҷикистон won re-election to a third term in the election, winning 3,023,754 votes (83.07 percent). Ismoil TALBAKOV of the Communist Party / Ҳизби Кумунистии Тоҷикистон finished second in the election, winning 181,675 votes (4.99 percent) Finishing third in the election was Tolibbak BUKHORIEV of the Agrarian Party / Ҳизби аграрии Тоҷикистон, who won 166,224 votes (4.57 percent). The main opposition candidate, Oinihol BOBONAZAROVA, would have been the first women to run for President in Tajikistan, however, she was unable to collect the required signatures required by the Central Commission on Elections and Referenda by the October 10, 2013 deadline. In the election, 3,640,056 Tajik citizens (86.6 percent) cast their ballots.
