Ruling Aruban People's Party Maintains Majority

Arubans cast their ballots for the 21 members of the Staten on September 27, 2013. The 21 members are elected through open-list proportional representation. According to preliminary results, the ruling Aruban People’s Party / Arubaanse Volkspartij (AVP), led by Prime Minister Mike EMAN, retained their majority in the Staten. Prime Minister EMAN’s AVP will have 13 seats in the new Staten, after winning 33,213 votes in the election. The opposition People’s Electoral Movement / Movimiento Electoral di Pueblo (MEP), led by Evelyn WEVER-CROES, finished second in the election, and will have 7 seats in the new Staten.
