Preliminary results from the second round of voting for the presidential election in Mali have been released by the government. The preliminary results show that former Prime Minister Ibrahim Boubacar KEÏTA will be the next president of Mali, having won 2,354,693 votes (77.61 percent). His opponent, Soumaïla CISSÉ received 679,258 votes (22.39 percent) in the second round of voting, and conceded defeat to KEÏTA on Tuesday, saying that he would accept the results of the election. KEÏTA had received the endorsement of 22 of the 25 losing candidates from the first round. Turnout in the second round of voting fell from the record high experienced in the first round, with 3,126,521 Malians (45.78 percent) casting ballots. KEÏTA is set to be inaugurated on September 19, 2013. Additionally, the Territorial Administration Ministry stated on Wednesday, that government is expecting to hold legislative elections in either October or November, following the success of the presidential election.
