Voters in Albania voted in Parliamentary elections last Sunday to elect 140 members to the Parliament. With 5,483 of 5,508 voting centers (99.55 percent) having reported their results, the Socialist Party / Partia Socialiste, led by Edi RAMA, and their Alliance for a European Albania coalition partners have won a landslide victory over Prime Minister Sali BERISHA’s Democratic Party of Albania / Partia Demokratike. Prime Minister BERISHA conceded the election to RAMA on Wednesday night. RAMA’s Socialist Party / Partia Socialiste received 709,182 votes (41.28 percent). Overall, RAMA’s Alliance for a European Albania / Aleanca per Shqiperine Evropiane won 57.7 percent of the vote, and is expected to have 84 seats in the new Parliament. The Democratic Party of Albania / Partia Demokratike won 524,484 votes (30.53 percent), and alongside its coalition partners are expected to hold 56 seats in the new Parliament. The latest results show that 1,742,041 Albanians participated in the election, for a turnout of 53.52 percent.
