Parliamentary elections are being held this Sunday in Equatorial Guinea. The last elections were held in 2008, when the ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea / Partido Democr�tico de Guinea Ecuatorial� and its allies 99 of the 100 seats in the House of People’s Representatives. The opposition Convergence for Social Democracy / Convergencia Para la Democracia Social, led by Placido MICO Abogo, won the other seat. Constitutional amendments ratified in 2012 created a new, bicameral legislature, to be elected during the 2013 general election. The new Senate will consist of 70 seats, 55 of which are directly elected, and 15 of which will be appointed by the President.
