In the second round of the Czech Republic’s presidential contest, ex-PM Milos ZEMAN defeated Foreign Minister Karel SCHWARZENBERG by a vote of 55 to 45 percent, respectively. ZEMAN who belongs to the left-leaning Party of Civic Rights/Zemanovci Strana Práv Občanů – Zemanovci SPOZ, will serve as the republic’s first directly-elected president, replacing Vaclav Klaus whose second and final term ends March 7, 2013.
