Palestine’s first exclusively female candidate list will compete in elections in the municipality of Hebron, West Bank. Led by 43-year old Maysoun QAWASMI, the list is titled "By Participating, We Can." It will field eleven previously independent candidates and compete with Fatah and independent lists for the Hebron council’s fifteen seats. If successful, the list hopes to form an official political party. The last round of local elections in the West Bank and Gaza occurred in 2005, and these will be the first elections in the city of Hebron since 1976. The October elections had initially been planned for 2010, but postponed at the last minute by Palestinian Authority (PA) president, Mahmoud Abbas.
