The Premier of the province of Quebec, Jean CHAREST, has asked the province’s Lieutenant Governor to dissolve the National Assembly. Elections for the 125-member National Assembly will take place on September 4, 2012. CHAREST’s Liberal Party will be challenged in the upcoming election by the separatist Parti Quebecois, led by Pauline MAROIS, and the Coalition for Quebec’s Future, led by Francois LEGAULT. Premier CHAREST, who has been in power since 2003, is seeking his fourth term in power as the leader of the Liberal Party.
