PNG votes for parliament

June 23, 2012, midnight

Citizens of Papua New Guinea began voting on Saturday for the 111 members of the National Parliament. The elections will last two weeks, to July 6, due to logistical issues related in part to the country’s geography. Some 3,500 candidates are competing. The election comes during a standoff between Peter O'NEILL and Michael SOMARE, who both claim to be the legitimate prime minister.
