The French Socialist Party (PS) won an absolute majority of seats Sunday in the second round of parliamentary elections. The PS and its allies captured 314 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly, while the opposition Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) captured 191. The success of the PS follows the election of their candidate Francois HOLLANDE in May’s presidential election. Segolene ROYAL, the Socialists’ candidate for president in 2007, lost her reelection bid.
