French voters on Sunday cast ballots for the first round of their country’s legislative election. Seats in the National Assembly are elected through absolute majority vote, meaning candidates must win an absolute more than 50 percent of votes in the first round to avoid a runoff. All candidates who receive at least 12.5 percent of the total number of registered voters are eligible for the second round. The second round of voting will be held on June 17.
