Guinea-Bissau will head towards a presidential run-off election after polls on Sunday failed to produce an outright winner. Preliminary results show that Carlos GOMEs Jr. captured almost 49 percent of the vote, while Kumba YALA won 23 percent. The early elections were called after President Malam Bacai SANHA died in January. No president since Guinea-Bissau’s has completed a full term in office. YALA served as president until 2003, when he was ousted by a military coup.
