Greece election delayed

Dec. 27, 2011, midnight

Greek Finance Minister Evangelos VENIZELOS on Tuesday announced that snap parliamentary elections have been delayed until April. VENIZELOS made the announcement after the conservative New Democracy party dropped its insistence on holding elections as early as February 19. The delay will give the ruling coalition of Prime Minister Lucas PAPADEMOS more time to pass a debt restructuring deal. PAPADEMOS leads a coalition government of the Socialists, New Democracy, and Laos
