Guinea delays election

Dec. 18, 2011, midnight

Guinea’s electoral management body on Sunday indefinitely postponed legislative elections set for December 29. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) made the announcement after opposition parties demanded a delay. The opposition claimed the date was made without their consultation. This will be the first election since November 2010, when Guinean President Alpha CONDE was elected in the country's first free polls since independence in 1958.
