Gabon President Ali BONGO's ruling coalition on Saturday captured 114 of 120 seats in the country’s legislative election. BONGO’s Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) increased their seats from 93 to 113, while an allied party captured one seat. Opposition parties boycotted the vote after the government refused to introduce a biometric voter registration system, which they claimed would limit fraud. The legislative vote is the first since Bongo's father, Omar, died two years ago. Omar Bongo ruled Gabon for 41 years.
