Bahrain held special parliamentary elections on Saturday to fill the 18 seats vacated by members of the opposition al-Wefaq party. Turnout was low, as only around 17 percent of voters cast ballots. The Wefaq party urged its supporters to boycott to poll. Elections were not held in four of the 18 districts as candidates there ran unopposed. All the candidates were independents, not affiliated with any political party.
