Cape Verde presidential election will head to run-off

Cape Verde is headed toward a presidential run-off vote after Sunday’s no candidate won a majority in Sunday’s election. Manuel Inocencio SOUSA, from the ruling African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), will face opposition candidate Jorge Carlos FONSECA of the Movement for Democracy (MFD). FONSECA led the first round with 37.4 percent of the vote, while SOUSA garnered and 33.3 percent. The second round will take place on August 21.
