Latvian voters on Sunday overwhelmingly voted to dissolve parliament in a special referendum. Then-President Valdis ZATLERS called the special referendum in May after parliament blocked an anti-corruption investigation against a prominent politician. Almost 95 percent of voters supported the measure, although turnout was placed at 44 percent of voters. The results set the stage for snap parliamentary elections on September 17. ZATLERS, who parliament voted out of office in response to the referendum, has formed a new political party to contest the September poll.
