Andris BERZINS won Latvia's indirect presidential election on Thursday, defeating incumbent Valdis ZATLERS. Parliament elects the president in Latvia. ZATLERS defeat comes after his decision on Saturday to call a special referendum to approve the dissolution of the country’s parliament. If more than 50 percent of voters approve the referendum, Latvia will hold snap parliamentary elections. ZATLERS decided to call for the dissolution after parliament blocked an anti-corruption investigation against a prominent politician.
