Voters will elect a President on November 21, according to announcement by the Burkinabe government on Thursday. While incumbent President Blaise COMPAORE has not declared his candidacy for a fourth term, he is nonetheless eligible under a 2005 court ruling holding that a new two-term limit could not apply retroactively. COMAPORE took power in a 1987 coup and won his first election in 1991. Two opposition candidates have come forward so far. Voter registration is scheduled for March 1 through 21.
