Election Commission announces final results of general election

The Central Election Commission released final results of the October 1 general elections on October 27, a week later than the initial deadline. Haris SILAJDZIC of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina (SBiH) won the poll for the Muslim member of the country's tripartite presidency with 62.80% of the Bosniak vote or 350,520 votes. The other two members of the presidency will be Bosnian Serb Nebojsa RADMANOVIC of the Party of Independent Social-Democrats (SNSD) and Bosnian Croat Zeljko KOMSIC of the Social-Democratic Party (SDP). RADMANOVIC obtained 287,675 or 53.26% of the Serb votes, while KOMSIC won 116,062 or 39.56% of the Croat votes. In the 42-member National House of Representatives, the most seats were secured by the Democratic Action Party (SDA) with 8 members, the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina (SBiH) and the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) with 7 members each, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 5, and the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) with 3 members. SDA, SBiH and SDP are parties from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while SNSD and SDS represent the Republic of Srpska.

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has announced general elections for October 1, 2006. Voters will elect the presidency and the parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as a new parliament in the BiH's Bosniak/Croat Federation and a new president, vice-president, and parliament in the Bosnian Serb-led Republika Srpska.

Bosnia and Herzegovina Annouce Preliminary Results for Tri-Presidential Election

Based on preliminary results, the nationalist candidates are leading the races for the presidential posts.  For the Croat presidency, Dragan Covic won 65% of the vote, while Mirko Sarovic secured 38% of the votes for the Serbian presidency. For the post of the Bosniak presidency, Sulejman Tihic has the slight majority over Haris Silajdzic with 28% and 26% of the votes respectively.  For the country’s parliamentary elections, the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), the Serbian Democratic Party (SDA) and the Croatian Democratic Community (HDZ) have secured most of the preliminary.  Official results of both elections will not be available until October 22.
