Description of electoral system:

The President is directly elected by simple majority vote to serve up to two 4-year terms.
The Premier is appointed by the President.
In the Legislative Yuan, 73 members are elected by simple majority vote in single-member constituencies, 34 members are elected by proportional representation vote in a nationwide constituency, and 6 members are elected by proportional representation vote in multi-seat constituencies representing indigenous peoples. All members serve 4-year terms *.

* Each voter has two votes: one for a party list and one for either a single-member constituency or a multi-seat indigenous peoples' constituency. A gender quota (50% female, 50% male) applies to party lists, and parties win at least 5% of the national vote to gain a seat.
