Assembly: Qatar has a unicameral Advisory Council (Majlis al-Shura) with 45 seats.
Description of electoral system:
The Amir is hereditary head of state.
Prime Minister is appointed by the monarch.
In the Advisory Council (Majlis al-Shura), 15 members are appointed by the monarch to serve 3-year terms and 30 members are elected by popular vote to serve 4-year terms. The Constitution was amended in 2003 to allow for the direct election of 30 members of the Advisory Council. The first elections were scheduled for 2013, but were postponed until 2021.
